AUGUST 2009 --
Volkswagen is recalling
certain model year 2009 and
2010 passenger cars
manufactured between
September 2008 and August
2009. The wiring harness of
a temperature sensor in the
direct shift gearbox (DSG)
may have connector wires
that were insufficiently
crimped. With insufficiently
crimped connector wires, a
temperature sensor has the
potential to falsely detect
a high gearbox oil
temperature, causing the
transmission to abruptly
shift to neutral. If this
happens, the selector lever
position indicator within
the instrument panel will
flash. In addition, the
"Depress Brake Pedal"
indicator light will be
illuminated, alerting the
driver to apply the brakes.
The abrupt shift to neutral
could lead to a crash
without warning. Volkswagen
will notify owners, inspect
the DSG and, if necessary,
replace an affected DSG
temperature sensor free of
charge. The manufacturer has
not yet provided a
notification schedule.

NEWS:
VW recalling
13,500 vehicles over transmission
August 20,
2009 -- Yahoo News -- WASHINGTON –
Volkswagen of America is recalling 13,500
vehicles to fix problems with a dual-clutch
transmission that could lead to a warning on
the dashboard.
The recall
affects 2009 model year and a limited number
of 2010 Jetta, Jetta SportsWagen, GTI and
Eos vehicles built between September 2008
and August 2009. Volkswagen says some of the
vehicles could have a faulty temperature
sensor in the transmission, which could lead
to the warning lamp lighting up on the
dashboard. They said in rare cases, the
transmission could shift into neutral.
