JULY 2011 --
Ford is recalling certain 1997 through 2003 model year Ford F-150, 2004 model
year Ford F-150 Heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year F-250 less than 8,500
lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and 2002 and 2003 Lincoln Blackwood
vehicles manufactured from June 20, 1995, through August 4, 2004, originally
sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana,
Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont,
West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. Prolonged exposure to
road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which
secure the tank to the vehicle. As a result of the corrosion, one or both straps
may fail allowing the fuel lines to separate from the tank, or in some cases,
causing the tank to contact the ground. Either scenario may result in a fuel
leak and present a fire hazard. Ford will notify owners and instruct them to
take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the fuel tank straps
replaced with straps that have increased corrosion protection. Early in this
campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable
support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the
existing strap as a permanent repair. Any repairs will be performed free of
charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about September 12, 2011.
Ford's recall campaign number is 11S21. 11V-385
JULY 2011 --
Ford is recalling certain model year 2011 Ranger trucks built from January 25,
2011, through April 25, 2011, at the Twin Cities assembly plant, and service
parts distributed to dealers for certain 2004 through 2011 model year Ranger
trucks; 2002 through 2005 model year Excursion vehicles; and 2002 through 2007
model year F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks for failing to comply with the
requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps,
Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The multi-function switch was
shipped with a subcomponent (slider) that may experience deformation. A
multi-function switch with a deformed slider may malfunction causing the turn
signal, tail lights, hazard warning signal flashers and/or brake lights not to
activate. Non-functioning lights could increase the risk of a crash. Dealers
will replace the switches free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin
on or about August 15, 2011. 11V-352

NEWS:
Ford to recall 1.1M
pickup trucks for gas
tank problem
YAHOO NEWS -- August 1,
2011 – Ford is recalling
more than a million
pickup trucks because
their gas tanks can fall
off and cause fires.
The recall, announced
Monday, covers 1.1
million F-150, F-250 and
Lincoln Blackwood
pickups. The models
involved were sold in
cold-weather states
where road salt can
cause straps metal
straps holding up the
tanks to rust. If the
straps break, the tanks
can hit the ground,
rupture and catch fire.
Regulators began
investigating the
problem back in
September. The defect
has been blamed for
eight fires, three of
which spread to the rest
of the truck. One person
was injured, suffering
first- and second-degree
burns, Ford Motor Co.
spokesman Wes Sherwood
said.
The recall adds to the
list of problems with
the F-Series pickup,
traditionally America's
best-selling vehicle.
The pickups have been
involved in three
recalls going back to
2008, involving millions
of vehicles. Regulators
have become more
aggressive since being
criticized last year for
a slow response to
Toyota's sudden
acceleration problems.
The latest Ford pickup
recall involves certain
1997 through 2004 Ford
F-150 models, as well as
some 1997 through 1999
model year F-250
pickups. Also affected
are Lincoln Blackwood
pickups from the 2002
and 2003 model years.
Ford sold more than
264,000 of the F-Series
trucks during the first
six months of this year.
The company would not
say how much money the
recall would cost. The
nation's largest single
recall involved 7.9
million Ford vehicles in
1996 to replace an
ignition switch.
Earlier in the year,
F-Series pickups were
the subject of sniping
between the government
and Ford because of air
bags that could deploy
at the wrong time. Ford
announced in February
that it would fix
150,000 F-150s for that
problem, but under
pressure from
regulators, the company
expanded the recall to
1.2 million trucks in
April. In that case,
there were 98 reported
injuries because of the
problem.
Other recent F-Series
recalls include:
— December 2010: About
15,000 of the trucks and
some Ford crossover
vehicles were recalled
for problems with
electrical systems that
could short and cause
fires.
— May 2008: More than
655,000 F-150 and
Lincoln Mark LT pickup
trucks were recalled to
fix a defective hose
that could affect the
vehicles' braking power.
Ford also recalled more
than 10.4 million
vehicles in several
increments from 1999 to
2007 because a faulty
cruise-control switch
could cause fires. The
recalls covered more
than a dozen vehicles
built from 1992 to 2004,
including some F-Series
models.
To fix the latest
problem, Ford will
notify owners in
September to bring their
trucks to dealers.
Mechanics will replace
the straps with new ones
coated to resist
corrosion. Ford said
that parts to fix the
problem won't be widely
available until then.

position sensor located on
the engine of the vehicle
may function intermittently,
possibly resulting in an
engine stall. In the event
of an engine stall, a crash
could result without
warning. Dealers will
inspect the sensor and

NEWS: Feds
warns Ford owners about
recalled vehicles
WASHINGTON (AP) — The
government is urging
owners of 5 million
recalled Ford vehicles
to bring them to
dealerships to repair a
cruise control switch
system that has been
tied to engine fires.
The
National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration on
Tuesday issued a second
consumer advisory to
owners of certain
unrepaired Ford, Lincoln
and Mercury sport
utility vehicles, pickup
trucks, vans and
passenger cars who have
not responded to
previous recalls.
NHTSA
said about 12 million
vehicles have been part
of the recall and nearly
5 million still have not
been fixed. A similar
warning was issued in
February but officials
said the rate of the
vehicles being repaired
has declined.
The
recalls have affected
Ford's popular F-Series
pickup trucks and led to
hundreds of complaints
and dozens of lawsuits
over engine fires.
Ford
spokesman Wes Sherwood
said the Dearborn,
Mich., company supported
the effort to
communicate with owners.
He said owners have
received several recall
notices but "the return
rate has been lower than
expected or hoped
(for)."
Dealers have installed a
fused wiring harness
into the speed control
electrical system as
part of the recall, and
the government said
replacement parts are
available. Owners can
take their vehicle to a
dealer to have the
cruise control
deactivated until the
parts arrive.
NHTSA
issued a lengthy list of
older vehicles covered
by the consumer
advisory, including
1993-2004 Ford F150
trucks, 1994-2002 F250
through F550 Super Duty
trucks with gasoline
engines, and 1998-2001
Ford Explorer and
Mercury Mountaineer
SUVs, which were among
the best-selling
vehicles in the nation
during those years.

Ford Recalls F-250,
F-350 Trucks for Fire
Hazard
Consumer Affairs --
April 29, 2008 --
The Ford Motor Company
is recalling 64,754 of
its heavy duty 2008
F-250 and F-350 trucks
because of a potential
fire hazard.
Federal safety
regulators at the
National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA)
report that the trucks
do not conform to
Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard imposed
to maintain “fuel system
integrity” and prevent
fuel spills.
NHTSA warned on its Web
site that
single-rear-wheel
versions of the trucks
with 4-wheel drive and
the 156-inch wheel base,
equipped with a
two-piece drive shaft
contain a fuel tank
system that can rupture
or leak in a crash.
“During a 30 mph frontal
impact into a rigid
barrier, the fuel tank
can move forward and
contact a frame cross
member, potentially
causing damage to the
fuel delivery module
which can result in fuel
spillage,” according to
the NHTSA Web site.
The federal safety
agency warned that “fuel
spillage in the presence
of an ignition source
could result in a fire.”
Ford dealers will
install a bracket in the
trucks to remedy the
safety problem when the
recall gets under way in
late May. The recall
number is 080C04. Truck
owners may contact Ford
at 1-800392-3673 or
